England’s Georgia Hall is four shots behind the leaders after round one of the Chevron Championship, the first women’s golf major of the season.

World number one Nelly Korda had a tough start with a score of 77, putting her 12 shots behind leaders Haeran Ryu and Yan Liu.

Ryu (South Korea) and Liu (China) both played strong, bogey-free rounds, finishing seven under par. They lead by two shots over Hyo Joo Kim from South Korea.

Play had to stop late in the day because of a storm, leaving 24 players unable to finish their rounds.

Korda, who won this tournament last year, couldn’t find her form this time. She made four bogeys in a row and was four over par after just six holes.

Hall had a good start with two birdies, then dropped back to even par after three bogeys. But she finished strong with three birdies in her last eight holes and ended the day three under par.

Scotland’s Gemma Dryburgh finished at even par after a double-bogey on her second-last hole.

England’s Charley Hull started well, going two under after four holes. But a triple-bogey on her final hole left her with a score of 75.

Hull is tied with fellow English player Lottie Woad, the world’s top amateur, who had four bogeys and one birdie after opening with eight pars.
