40 Cricketers Gather at Mirpur to Discuss Future of Bangladesh Cricketers’ Welfare Body

Cricketers

The Cricketers’ Welfare Association of Bangladesh (CWAB) looks after the interests of cricketers. After the change of power in the country, former and current cricketers held an emergency meeting in March. While the previous committee was suspended, a new 5-member ad hoc committee was formed.

Apart from this, 8 cricketers were given responsibility from 8 departments. Even then, several meetings were held. In continuation of this, today (Tuesday), the members of the COAB sat in a meeting at the Academy Bhaban of Sher-e-Bangla, Mirpur. About 40 former and current cricketers were present. Apart from Tamim Iqbal, Taijul Islam, Minhajul Abedin Nannu, Khaled Masud Pilot were also present.

Today’s meeting mainly discussed the next COAB election. The meeting was held to decide when the election would be held. A senior cricketer present at the meeting told Dhaka Post, ‘The activity of the COAB is less now, we sat in the discussion to make it active. So that it can stand by the cricketers, speak for the cricketers. We want the COAB to be active so that it can stand by the cricketers.’

“The responsibility has been given to those who are senior and in charge. An elected committee is needed, elections will be held soon. There have been discussions about that. Then those who come will continue the work. The vote for this will be held in Dhaka, it will happen only when all the cricketers are based in Dhaka. However, the date has not been finalized yet. There are many processes left before that.
