The BCCI also followed this rule in the IPL. After this, the players shine the ball only through sweat and by rubbing it on clothes. But the rules of IPL are outside the purview of the ICC.

A senior BCCI official told PTI, ‘Applying saliva on the ball used to be an important part of the game before the COVID-19 pandemic. Now that there is no threat of COVID-19, there is no risk in lifting the ban on saliva on the ball in IPL.

We understand that it has a greater impact in red ball cricket and it also helps the bowlers a bit in the white ball format. It should be allowed in IPL. Let’s see what the captains decide tomorrow.’

If the captains do not object to the BCCI’s proposal, then in the upcoming season of IPL, bowlers can again be seen using saliva on the ball. This may force the ICC to lift the ban on it.
