After this victory, the race for the semi-finals of Group B has become exciting. England is out of the tournament and the race for the remaining two spots is between Australia, South Africa and Afghanistan.

Semi-Final: The last two matches of this group are to be played between Afghanistan and Australia and between South Africa and England. Only after these two matches will it be known which two teams will reach the semi-finals from here. Now let’s know what these teams have to do to reach the semi-finals from here.

Which two teams can reach the semi-finals from Group B

If Afghanistan has to get a ticket to the semi-finals, then after England, they will have to defeat world champion Australia as well. Afghanistan is at the third position in the points table of Group-B with 2 points. South Africa and Australia are above them with 3-3 points. Afghanistan’s fate is still in its own hands. If Afghanistan manages to defeat Australia, then it can make its place in the semi-finals with 4 points. Australia will be out of the tournament with 3 points.

On the other hand, if the Afghanistan vs Australia match is canceled due to rain, then the Kangaroos will get the ticket to the semi-finals and Afghanistan will be out of the tournament. Actually, in case of the match being canceled, both the teams will have to share one point each. In such a situation, Australia will have 4 points in its account, while Afghanistan will have only three points.

The path to the semi-finals is a bit easier for South Africa and Australia, both the teams have to win their next matches. If this happens, then South Africa and Australia will make their place in the semi-finals with 5-5 points. If both teams lose, then in this situation South Africa and Afghanistan can get a ticket to the semi-finals because SA’s net run rate is much better than AUS. If South Africa vs England and Australia vs Afghanistan matches are washed out due to rain, then SA and AUS will make it to the semi-finals with 4-4 points.
