The West Indies Cricket Board has appointed Roston Chase as the new Test captain. Chase will be seen leading the team from the Test series to be played against Australia in June. He has previously captained the West Indies in one ODI and one T20 match.
33-year-old Roston Chase will replace opener Craig Braithwaite, who stepped down as Test captain in March. Braithwaite represented the West Indies in 39 Tests, leading the team to 10 wins, 22 losses and 7 draws.

West Indies Board gave update on social media
Sharing the official information on social media, the West Indies Cricket Board wrote,
“Roston Chase has been appointed as the new West Indies Test Captain. The CWI Board of Directors unanimously approved the appointment at their meeting today, 16 May 2025. Best wishes Roston – the West Indies are with you!”
Cricket West Indies also revealed that Roston Chase was one of the six players shortlisted to captain the team in Test cricket, with John Campbell, Tevin Imlach, Joshua de Silva, Justin Greaves and Warkin being the other five candidates.
According to ESPNcricinfo report, West Indies head coach Darren Sammy said, “I fully support this appointment. Our new captain has earned the respect of his teammates, understands the responsibility that comes with the role, and has shown the leadership qualities needed to lead this team forward. I urge fans to unite behind him – we are building something special.”
Chase played his last Test two years ago
Roston Chase played his last Test match against South Africa in Johannesburg two years ago. He made his debut in 2016 and has so far scored 2265 runs at an average of 26.33, including five centuries. Chase has also taken 85 wickets.
