Rolly Romero: Not many people believed Rolando “Rolly” Romero when he said Ryan Garcia and Devin Haney could still have a rematch after he beat Garcia. But now, after Romero’s surprise win on Friday night in Times Square, that might happen.
Romero shocked everyone by beating Garcia in their 12-round fight at The Ring’s outdoor event, “FATAL FURY: City of the Wolves.” Romero knocked Garcia down in the second round with a left hook, making Garcia more careful for the rest of the fight. Romero won by unanimous decision.

Two judges scored the fight 115-112 for Romero, and another judge gave it 118-109. Romero, now 17-2 with 13 knockouts, said after the fight, “Knockdowns always help. But Garcia is a warrior. He got up and finished the fight.”
This win was big for Romero, who had lost two of his last four fights. Garcia was a big favorite to win but couldn’t do much after getting knocked down. Both fighters landed few punches, and Garcia’s slow performance cost him the win and his chance for a rematch with Haney later this year.
Romero said he’s not thinking about his next fight yet, but he thinks Garcia and Haney should still have their rematch.
Garcia admitted after the fight that he wasn’t at his best, saying, “Romero caught me early. No excuses. He did a great job.” Garcia also said that his long break from boxing affected him, but he was thankful to complete 12 rounds.
