Manchester City will join Manchester United in the first-ever Women’s World Sevens tournament this May.

The seven-a-side competition will be held from May 21 to May 23, just a few days before the Women’s Champions League final, in Estoril, Portugal.

Both City and United, who confirmed their participation last month, will compete alongside Bayern Munich, Roma, Paris Saint-Germain, Ajax, Benfica, and FC Rosengard in the eight-team tournament.

City’s Women Director of Football, Therese Sjogran, said, “This tournament is an exciting new addition to the women’s game, and as a club always looking to lead the way, we are proud to be part of this historic moment from the start.”

“We’re excited to bring our players to Portugal,” said the team.

The tournament will start with a two-day group stage, followed by knockout rounds and a final.

Nick Cushing, Manchester City’s interim head coach, will lead a team composed of first-team players. He could manage up to five 30-minute matches, depending on how far the team goes.
