Claressa Shields to Defend World Titles on July 26

Three months after becoming the undisputed women’s heavyweight champion by beating Danielle Perkins, Claressa Shields already has her next fight lined up. She will face New Zealand’s Lani Daniels on July 26. Shields shared the news and a fight poster on social media and is aiming for a third fight later in 2025.

Shields (16 wins, 0 losses, 3 knockouts) hasn’t fought three times in a single year since 2018, when she competed in two weight divisions. Her promoter, Dmitry Salita, said women’s boxing has come a long way since Shields headlined the first women’s main event on national TV.

The fight will take place at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, where Shields won her first heavyweight fight in 2023. Tickets go on sale this Friday.

Lani Daniels, 36, is a two-division champion who has held titles at heavyweight and light-heavyweight. She became a pro in 2017 and has improved since losing her first world title fight. After a few tough draws, she’s won seven fights in a row and now gets a big opportunity against Shields in the U.S.

Like Shields, Daniels has fought at many different weights, but this will be her toughest test yet—facing one of the best champions in women’s boxing.
