Giovani Santillan Ready for Big Fights, Starts with Rolly Romero

Giovani Santillan

Giovani Santillan has had many great moments in the boxing ring, but one tough loss still stands out in his mind.

The boxer from San Diego spent years training and proving himself. His efforts finally led to a big opportunity — a title fight against Brian Norman Jr. in 2024. Unfortunately, Santillan lost that match in the 10th round by stoppage.

Since that defeat, he has bounced back with two strong wins by stoppage. While his name isn’t as talked about as before, Santillan feels he’s done enough to deserve another big fight. When asked who he wants to face next, he mentioned a bold and outspoken fighter who just had the biggest victory of his own career.

Giovani Santillan shared his excitement about facing Rolly Romero, saying, “I would love to fight Rolly Romero. I think it would be a thrilling match for everyone. He’s an exciting fighter, and with my style, it would make for an enjoyable fight.”

Romero wasn’t expected to win his recent fight against Ryan Garcia, who was favored to win. However, Romero stunned everyone by knocking Garcia down and securing an easy victory. After the win, Romero picked up his WBA “regular” 147-pound title from the WBA office before heading to his post-fight celebration.

Santillan (34-1, 18 KOs) wasn’t included on Romero’s list of potential opponents, but Santillan isn’t discouraged. He knows he isn’t as well-known, but he’s prepared to take the hard route to get his chance.

Santillan is determined not to shy away from competition. He’s willing to wait for an opportunity with one of the top welterweight fighters. His ultimate goal is to fight for a title, but if that doesn’t happen, he’s open to facing anyone. “I want those big fights, anyone,” he said.
