Another Brazilian star at United for the long haul

Anthony Matthews was considered a big disappointment for Brazil at Manchester United. However, he came back into the spotlight with his impressive performances while playing on loan at Spanish club Real Betis. However, another Brazilian midfielder, Casemiro, is still a source of hope for United. In the meantime, they have added 26-year-old Seleção forward Matheus Cunha to the team.

The winger caught the eye with his flashes for Wolverhampton Wanderers in the just-ended season. After a period of speculation, United officially announced the start of the visa and registration process for Cunha on June 1. Cunha signed a five-year contract with United until June 2025 yesterday (Thursday). The contract includes the option to extend it for another year if he wants.

The Brazilian forward was brought from Wolves for a release clause of 62.5 million pounds. That is about 10.39 billion taka in Bangladeshi currency. Cunha said he wants to take the club to the ‘highest peak’ again by joining his new address at Old Trafford. According to the contract, the 26-year-old forward will receive 25 million taka (150,000 pounds) per week, in addition to the option to extend the term by one year.

Reacting to joining Manchester United, Cunha said, “It’s hard for me to put into words the feeling of being a United player. Ever since I was a child, when I used to watch Premier League matches on TV at my grandmother’s house in Brazil, United has been my favorite team and it was my dream to one day wear this red jersey. I want to thank everyone, including my family, for making this dream a reality.”

“I can’t wait to get to know my teammates and start pre-season in preparation for the upcoming season. All my focus now is to work hard, be a valuable member of the team and get the team back to the top,” Cunha added.

United’s last season was not a good one. The change that Ruben Amorim brought in to replace Erik ten Hag did not materialize. United finished 15th in the Premier League with 42 points. On the other hand, 26-year-old Cunha scored 17 goals and provided 6 assists for Wolverhampton last season. He has played 15 international matches for Brazil so far.
