Australian rugby player Jordan Petaia has joined French Top 14 club Perpignan after being released by the NFL’s Los Angeles Chargers. The 25-year-old, whose NFL trial was cut short due to injuries, has signed a one-year deal.
Petaia, who has played 31 times for the Wallabies and featured in two World Cups, adds more depth to Perpignan’s squad. The French club also brought in former Scotland captain Jamie Ritchie earlier this summer.
Known for his versatility, Petaia can play at centre, wing, or full-back. Perpignan begin their new season at home against Bayonne, last year’s semi-finalists, on September 6.
They will be aiming for a much stronger campaign after finishing second from bottom last season, surviving only by beating Grenoble in a relegation play-off.
