The press conference was attended by Leo Shaopeng, Cultural Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Dhaka. He said, “Football is very popular in Bangladesh, so let’s start with football. There will be many events throughout the year to mark the 50th anniversary of the relationship between the two countries. Apart from sports, there will be various programs in other fields.” The Bangladesh U-17 women’s team recently returned from Bhutan. The girls of that team will mainly play against China’s Minzu University. Bangladesh team coach Mahbubur Rahman Litu said, “The girls have returned after their vacation. We have prepared for a few days. China’s women’s football is very good. I hope it will be a good match.”
China is currently the champion of the Women’s Asia Cup. The team that came to Bangladesh is not a national or club team, but a university team. A diplomat from the Chinese embassy gave a little idea about this team, “Actually, we, the embassy, have decided the team. Out of the 18, 13 are from Minzu University and 5 are from other universities. They play regularly at the university level.”
