Bangladesh Qualify for AFC Women’s Asian Cup for First Time in History

The teams in Group C played Asian Cup qualifiers in Myanmar. Bangladesh women’s team won all three matches to qualify for the AFC continental competition for the first time. Iran became the last team to qualify for the Asian Cup after defeating Jordan 2-1. The 12 teams competing were finalized.

Although Iran and Jordan are tied on 9 points in the Group A qualifiers. Both teams have won 3 of their 4 matches. However, the Iranian women have secured a place in the 2026 Asian Cup in Australia by winning the head-to-head match. This is their second time participating in the highest competition in Asian football.

Expressing their excitement for their players, Iranian coach Mariziyeh Jafri said, “I am very happy to have filled the hearts of the Iranian people. Qualifying for the AFC Asian Cup was not easy. We came to this competition under very difficult conditions, intensive camps, logistical constraints and a lot of psychological pressure. However, our players performed beyond expectations. They not only proved their tactical ability, but also found the motivation to reach this stage by strengthening themselves mentally.”

Hosts Australia, along with Asian powerhouses Japan, China and South Korea, secured a place in the upcoming Asian Cup without qualifying. Later, India, Bangladesh, Taiwan, Vietnam, Uzbekistan, the Philippines and North Korea joined them one by one through the qualifiers.

The draw for the Asian Cup will be held on July 29. Iran’s women are in the same bracket as Bangladesh and India in the draw.
