Ireland and Leinster captain Caelan Doris will be out for up to six months after having shoulder surgery, Leinster confirmed on Monday.
The 27-year-old got hurt during Leinster’s narrow 37-34 loss to Northampton in the Champions Cup semi-final on May 3.
Just last week, Doris was not included in the British and Irish Lions squad for their tour of Australia, a decision made by coach Andy Farrell.
Earlier, Doris was seen as a strong candidate to lead the Lions, but the captaincy instead went to England and Saracens player Maro Itoje.

Leinster announced that Caelan Doris had shoulder surgery last Friday, and he will be out for four to six months.
This injury is a big setback for Doris, as it means he will miss what could have been his first-ever Lions tour. There’s also uncertainty about whether he’ll be fit in time for Ireland’s upcoming matches later this year.
Ireland is scheduled to play against Georgia and Portugal in July. Then, they will face New Zealand in Chicago on November 1st, followed by home games in Dublin against Japan, Australia, and South Africa.
