George Kambosos Jr. sees something familiar in Richardson Hitchins — not in looks or boxing style, but in attitude. Hitchins reminds him of Teofimo Lopez, especially with all the trash talk, overconfidence, and the fact that people don’t expect much from Kambosos, just like before his big win over Lopez in 2021.
Back then, Lopez acted like he owned New York, and in a way, he did — until Kambosos surprised everyone by beating him. Now, Kambosos sees Hitchins (19-0, 7 KOs) as a good fighter, but not great. He also doesn’t think Hitchins has a strong fan base. That’s why, according to Kambosos, promoters brought him in — because he’s the “big name” people will watch.
“They brought in the big dog,” Kambosos told FightHype.com. “This kid can’t sell tickets. I’ve already been to the top.”

Kambosos and Hitchins were at Madison Square Garden on Thursday to promote their upcoming June 14th fight, which will stream live on DAZN.
Kambosos (22-3, 10 KOs) used to fight at 135 pounds, but after losing to Vasiliy Lomachenko in 2023, he moved up to junior welterweight. The change has helped his body and energy levels. After beating Jake Wyllie recently, he felt strong and confident.
He’s excited to eat better before the Hitchins fight and feels ready, physically and mentally, to chase another world title.
“I feel fresh and motivated,” Kambosos said. “Hitchins may be the current champ, but I’m ready to show what I can do on June 14.”
