Ronnie O’Sullivan took a strong 6-2 lead against Si Jiahui in their World Championship quarter-final match at the Crucible. Aiming for a record eighth title, O’Sullivan started steadily in a messy first frame. Si, a promising 22-year-old from China, responded with an impressive century break. However, he soon made several mistakes, giving O’Sullivan the chance to take control. The experienced champion took full advantage, scoring three half-centuries to move ahead 4-1.
Ronnie O’Sullivan, known as “The Rocket,” ended the session in style with a brilliant 121-point break, showing his control of the game.
In the same session on Tuesday afternoon, world number one Judd Trump played well and took a 5-3 lead over Luca Brecel. Trump scored his 101st and 102nd centuries of the season, bringing him very close to Neil Robertson’s single-season record of 103 centuries from 2013/14.
Trump, the 2019 champion, took a quick 5-1 lead with sharp play, but Brecel, the 2023 world champion, fought back with breaks of 68 and 128 to narrow the gap. Their match will continue on Wednesday morning at 10:00 BST.
In another exciting match between two snooker legends, John Higgins leads Mark Williams 5-3. This is their first match at the Crucible since the 2018 final, which Williams won in a memorable game.
